
Bruce Deal
Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba
Bruce W. Deal is a dedicated music educator and accomplished tubist currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), with a concentration in tuba/euphonium and a cognate in music education. He currently serves as a graduate assistant in the CCM Music Education Department, where he coteaches the Brass Methods course, assists with the Instrumental Music Methods course, manages the department's social media, and helps with various projects. Bruce has experience teaching students of all ages. During his student teaching at Lowellville School District, he worked with students from kindergarten through twelfth grade in band, choir, and general music. A passionate supporter of the marching arts, he served as Assistant Band Director for the McDonald High School Marching Band in 2021. He has also taught low brass and woodwinds at summer band camps for the West Middlesex and Liberty School Districts.
As a performer, Bruce has played with professional ensembles such as the River City Brass Band, the Youngstown Symphony, and the Youngstown State University All-Star Wind Ensemble. He was a finalist in the 2020, 2022, and 2024 Midwest Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference Mock Band Excerpt Competitions and a chamber competition finalist in 2020. He also won the McDonough Honors Recital Competition in 2019.
When not playing the tuba, euphonium, or trombone, Bruce enjoys cooking and playing frisbee golf. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Youngstown State University. His most influential teachers include Yukitada Onitsuka, Timothy Northcut, James Gourlay, and Stephen Gage.
